because Windows 7 boot manager (i can’t remember what it is called but it is usually referred to as “master boot record”) is very picky and does not like other operating systems.
reinstall Linux, that will active the Linux boot manager (Grub) and it will give options for Win7 or Linux boot up.
have fun =D
The Windows 7 boot loader overwrote “GRUB” (The boot loader for most Linux Distros). The easy way to set up dual boot is to install Windows7 before installing Linux. Try booting off of your Linux Mint CD- there may be a tool on there for reinstalling GRUB.
I’m just guessing here, but Linux uses EXT3 or 4 as the file format for the HDD, while Windows uses NTFS. The problem being that while Linux will recognise NTFS, I don’t think (note the “think” bit) Windows recognises EXT3 or 4. If so, then it would have behaved as though the HDD was blank. I hate to say it, but I hope I’m wrong.
As others have said, the best option would be to install Windows first, then reinstall the Linux.
you have to install windows 7 first then any other Linux base Os.
Have Fun…!!!
No you don’t have to reinstall either win 7 nor mint. They are both still there if you did not delete the mint partition. A windows install will overwrite the bootloader and only present windows as an option. You will have to reinstall the mint bootloader (grub) and then have the option of either OS.
Here are 2 ways to do it choose the one that is easiest for you.
Good luck
